OUR MISSION

Pélagos is an innovative company specializing in the restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems with the goal of regenerating degraded habitats, restoring biodiversity, and contributing to the development of a sustainable blue economy, using nature-based solutions.

Pélagos addresses the challenge of industrializing the science of marine restoration, applying advanced technologies to regenerate marine forests in Macaronesia and other regions around the world, thus recovering the valuable ecosystem services they provide to society.

HOW CAN WE HELP ?

RESTORATION PROJECTS

We provide scientific knowledge and profesional experience to successfully build a network of stakeholders committed to preserving marine ecosystems. Through rigorous evaluation and transparent reporting, we demonstrate the measurable benefits of our projects, creating a legacy of lasting, positive change.

ECOSYSTEM EVALUATION

Trust us for in-depth ecosystem evaluation and restoration projects. Our team utilizes cutting-edge techniques to assess and revitalize marine habitats, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity and ecological stability.

NURSERY

We have an in house nursery for marine species. Reproduced from seeds and grown until they are ready to be planted. Our nursery is also a research facility, to assure viability of our seedlings.

COMMUNICATION & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We engage with local communities to foster understanding and support for marine restoration efforts. Through inclusive initiatives, we aim to create a positive socio-economic impact and raise awareness about the importance of ocean conservation. Join us in advocating for marine conservation and restoration. Our communication strategies aim to amplify the significance of preserving sea forests, inspiring action and driving positive change.

Fernando Tuya

Fernando holds a PhD in Marine Sciences and is an Associate Professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), being a scientific advisor of Pélagos. He currently leads the Biodiversity and Conservation Research Group (BIOCON), affiliated with the IU-ECOAQUA Institute. With around 200 publications in international scientific journals, he has participated in numerous scientific forums and is co-author of over 10 outreach publications on the coastal ecosystems of the Canary Islands. He has also served as Principal Investigator on multiple research projects and was the scientific advisor for the spin-off Snorkeling Experience for six years.

OUR TEAM

At the heart of our work is a deep love for nature and a profound belief in the power of restoration. We are passionate about regenerating biodiversity and healing degraded ecosystems, always guided by the well-being of the communities who depend on them.

José Valdazo

Holds a PhD in Marine Sciences and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), working on the RESTORESEAS project. His work focuses on developing innovative techniques for the restoration of marine ecosystems, with a primary emphasis on macroalgal forests and seagrass meadows. He also brings over 8 years of experience in marine environmental consulting, acquired at the company Elittoral, where he managed and implemented projects related to the conservation, management, and restoration of coastal ecosystems.

Víctor Morales

Víctor is a geographer with a Master’s degree in Design for Sustainability from the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). He has worked as a corporate sustainability consultant in the UK, supporting organizations in transitioning to sustainable practices through Naros Consultancy. As CEO Manager of the Newbold House Foundation in Scotland, he led multidisciplinary teams researching sustainable ways to inhabit  our planet. Previously, he was Account Director at multinational agencies such as DRAFT FCB in Madrid, developing communication strategies for clients including Coca-Cola, JTI, and Mutua Madrileña.
